Collecting vs. Hoarding

When you think of the word hoarding, you think dirty, gross, grimy, useless stuff piling up to ceilings in every room of the house. Now think of the word collecting. What comes to mind? I think neat, small, unique, organized, tiny things on display, or in a shoe box. There is a difference between the two, but there are similarities. 

Hoarding is when you can't let go of almost everything, you have an emotional bond or attachment to it. So it gathers up in your home, amongst other things. It's like an addiction, you can't get rid of things. Once they start piling, it becomes harder and harder to clear out. It's unhealthy. 

Collecting is if you're intrigued by a certain topic, and you either seek out objects relating the topic, or come across them by chance. Those are the best, in my opinion, because it's one specific item you keep finding, it symbolizes something. 

Both are different, but both involve finding, and holding onto stuff. Either way, people have a bond to things, and that's what pushes them to seek these things out 

What does our collection reveal about us?

The items in our collection does reflect on the time we live in because some of the items have been made in this time. Brand name items, like the Nutri Grain Bar, PINK Perfume, Crayola paint, Hollister body spray, and Angry Birds. It also shows our interests, because they're things we brought from our homes. Things we owned. I don't know that it shows our beliefs because they are mainly matralistic items.

Picasso of Pastries

This assignment was one I enjoyed very much, it was a good way to finish off the week. It was fun and simple. I liked mixing the colors to get the perfect shade. It was hard to have perfect precision with the brush on such a small canvas. I had made two, one with and arrow like design. And the other a cheetah print. The cheetah print looked really good, I must admit, until I dropped it, as you can see. Woops!😳 I did enjoy this, it was fun and simple. a nice way to finish out the week

Comparison

Both assignments were very different. I really enjoyed creating the candy jar, it was fun, and light drawing, it was sweet, and colorful. I love expressing color and the complimentary colors. It was cool to see how yellow would make purple look darker, and so on. 

The bicycle drawing, on the other hand, was just how we drew it, black and white. It was just what you see is what you draw. It wasn't fun. I didn't enjoy myself, and wasn't happy with the work I made.

Both were entirely different assignments, I will admit, I didn't favor the bike drawing, but it helped me work on shading and highlighting. The candy drawing made me happy, and I really like the work I finished with.

Bicycle Drawing🚲

In all honesty, I really didn't enjoy this assignment. It was difficult to get the shading and highlighting on point. Making the metal look like metal was a challenge for me. It was hard to combine the three pencils, changing pressure throughout it to get the perfect shading. I just didn't enjoy it overall. It was a struggle to make it look realistic, and shiny. The black and white bored me. I love working with color, and doing fun things in art, I wasn't enjoying this drawing.
